Achieving a passing score is a necessary requisite for both graduation from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, and for obtaining dental licensure in the United States. Although each state reserves the authority to use the scores from the NBDE as a requisite to fulfill its written examination requirement, all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands use the NBDE for their licensing protocol.
